A former TAKII Charity Beneficiary (from TAKII ~Ichiban~), Zenkaikon is a sci-fi & Anime event/convention that is held on a yearly basis in King Of Prussia, PA & has existed as such since 2006. It was formed by the merger of 2 other like-minded events, Zentrancon & Kosaikon, after a 15-1 Board Of Directors vote (of which some TAKII Coordinators were members of at 1 time). It features a lot of the things you would find at most other events, such as a nice selection of dealers, an eclectic set of artists, energizing panels, & strong club support (c/o the Delaware Anime Society). At the request of Zenkaikon's co-founder (& closer personal friend of TAKII Coordinators), Jackie D.R. Freilich, the TAKII World Tour was asked to help kick off its inaugural celebration, as well as a subsequent event in 2007. Outside of the standard "TAKII Show" & "Say WTF Karaoke" offerings, The Asian Karaoke Idol Invitational also brought with it its critically-acclaimed "Who's Got No Talent!?" & the TLO (The Lost Otakus)-hosted "Otaku Jeopardy", a tradition that appears at Zenkaikon even to this day (& was started at TAKII). Zenkaikon also followed in the footsteps of "the world's most extreme Asian culture fusion festival" by announcing its expansion to a 2-day event shortly after TAKII did the same for TAKII 5 ~Shin Seiki (Neon Genesis)~. So sit back, relax, & enjoy the TAKII World Tour at Zenkaikon....all over again!
<< OCTOBER 28th, 2006 >> Attracting around 450 paid attendees, Zenkaikon 2006 was held at the Vallery Forge Scanticon Hotel & Conference Center in King Of Prussia, PA on October 28th, 2006. That same weekend, a larger gaming convention, Video Game Expo (VGX, as it was commonly known) was being held in the actual Valley Forge Convention Center, with a load of events taking place right below Zenkaikon! Because of this scheduling snaffu, it was decided that Zenkaikon would offer reciprocal discounts for people who attended Zenkaikon, but wanted to spend more time at VGX. As the day rolled on, the TAKII World Tour would feature an early morning vocal performance by D-chan (singing songs from his EP debut "Watashi Wa.... (I Am....)", including "Kaze no Shijin (Poet Of The Wind)" (from The Musicial SailorMoon), "Watachi-tachi Ni Naritakute (Wanting To Be Together With You)" (from SailorMoon SuperS), "Setsunakuteii (I'll Stand Alone)" (from SailorMoon R), & "Moonlight Densetsu (Moonlight Legend)" (from the SailorMoon series as a whole). Afterwards, Zenkaikon Co-Chairwoman, Matilda Madden, would ask D-chan to fill in 30-45 minutes of no programming time in the Zenkaikon schedule (due to a technical difficulty they were having) & he was more than happy to oblige! Called "Time OUT With D-chan", TAKII's Founder would call random people up on stage to ask them personal questions, do some random stand-up comedy, have impromptu sing-alongs, & much more, all in a talk show-like setting. When not performing, D-chan & TAKII Co-Coordinators Chris F., Dave R., & Dan R. would go to Video Game Expo & rock it on all of their retro gaming cabinets, see all of the sweet swag they were selling, & enjoy being around some of the craziest gaming fans known to man. Shortly before the TAKII Would Tour would go on to take Zenkaikon "to the extreme" with "Otaku Jeopardy", D-chan became the Video Game Expo Burgertime Champion, winning a mini retro handheld game device as his reward. By the end of Zenkaikon 2006, we were all very happy to go home & were more than happy to honor Jackie D.R. Freilich's appeal to have the TAKII World Tour back for Zenkaikon 2007.
<< OCTOBER 13th, 2007 >> Being held at the Valley Forge Scanticon Hotel & Conference Center in King Of Prussia, PA, Zenkaikon 2007 took place on October 13th, 2007. Thanks to the combined efforts of Zenkaikon staff & the infamously-popular TAKII World Tour, it ended up attracting around 570 paid attendees for the day. Aside from performing fan-requested Asian songs earlier that morning, D-chan would go on to host yet another TAKII original festivity, "Who's Got No Talent!?". Zenkaikon 2007 attendees were called up to the stage to perform songs from within TAKII's "Say WTF Karaoke" Lyric Book, if they didn't already come prepared with their own song. Among many other notable performances, TAKII extremist, KojiroJames (aka "The Team Rocket Guy") sang the American pop classic, "Feelings", & had people swaying & booing him at the same time LOL! During his performance & everyone elses, D-chan would make a mockery of the contestant, holding up signs of making funny gestures to the audience. When all was said & done, everyone who participated was delcared a winner & many dollar bills were thrown into the crowd as their prize!!!! Later on that night, the TAKII World Tour would once again steal the show at Zenkaikon with a version of "Otaku Jeopardy" exhilarating that it ended up being standing room only for participants & audience alike!! After the conclusion of Zenkaikon 2007, the TAKII World Tour would begin to focus more of its attention to other convention/festival performance offers & ended up giving Zenkaikon the option to request the TAKII World Tour's "Otaku Jeopardy" as long as its original hosts, TLO's own Dan & Annie R., were willing to do it. To this day, this piece of original TAKII programming is consistently 1 of Zenkaikon's most popular participatory events!
